[am4show have='p156;p157' guest_error='guest_error_msg' user_error='user_error_msg' ]We're ready to start introducing variables! Algebra is all about solving for things we want to know, like how many more goals the team needs to score in the second half in order to win the game; how many cookies a bag of flour will make; how far you can go on a tank of gas... you get the idea. Variables are how we label unknown values, and algebra is how we solve for them.
Math Class Session
These math class lessons will start you out on the right path into our algebra adventure. After watching the math lesson video, continue to practice the concepts using the workbook, activities, games, projects, word problems... and have fun learning!
Algebra Basics: Variables, Terms & Expressions
This is the second workbooks in Set #1. I've put together a set of videos that will walk you through select problems in this workbook, so grab yours and let's work together through: Variables, Terms & Expressions! Plan to complete 3-4 pages per day. After you complete the pages, you may check the answer key.
Math Activity: Exploring Exponents
Exponents are how many times a number is multiplied by itself. The "2" in 32 means that we multiply 3 by itself twice to get 9. If exponents are new to you, start with the workbook for this session, then work on this activity to explore exponents more thoroughly.
Math Activity: Mazes (3 in 1)
This is a fun set of three math mazes that increase in difficulty as you work through them. I've done the first two on video so you can work through them with me, and left you with the third one on your own. Do your best and have fun!
Math Activity: Algebra Packet #1 (Part 2)
If the workbook above Operations on Integers was too easy for you (HINT: there's a test at the back that you can use to figure this out quickly), then use this packet below to work through a deeper dive into the content. This packet has several sections that covers the important concepts we'll be using throughout this course and into Algebra 1. Please use the packet we started on in Pre-Algebra Session #2.
Math Challenge
Each session, I have a special Math Challenge for you to work on after you work through some of the content in this area of math. The goal for these special math challenges is for you to be able to communicate your great ideas with your family and friends, without them being in a math class or having any knowledge of a specific area of math. You should be able to convey your great ideas to most people that are interested in hearing what you have to share. Many families find this part of the math program exciting for them to participate in with their student!

Solution to Math Riddle #2
Chicago! (You have to scale up the third fraction to 2/4 to get "go".)
