[am4show have='p156;p157' guest_error='guest_error_msg' user_error='user_error_msg' ]We're going to continue learning how to work with positive and negative integers, learning how to do all four operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We'll also introduce properties that will help us solve for unknown values we'll be doing in the future. For now, we'll work with numbers as we understand how these principles and properties work, such as the identity, commutative, associative, multiplicative and distributive properties and principles.
Math Class Session
These math class lessons will start you out on the right path into our algebra adventure. After watching the math lesson video, continue to practice the concepts using the workbook, activities, games, projects, word problems... and have fun learning!
Algebra Basics: Operations on Integers
This is the first of two workbooks in Set #1. I've put together a set of videos that will walk you through select problems in this workbook, so grab yours and let's work together through the first workbook, Operations on Integers. Plan to complete 3-4 pages per day. After you complete the pages, you may check the answer key.
Math Activity: Order of Operations Math Lib
This is a fun game, especially if you have to walk around and find the different stations to puzzle together the silly sentence you're trying to build! If you are using this with a larger group, cut out each station and have them in separate envelopes (once for each letter) so the kids can pick the problems they want to do.
Math Activity: Scavenger Hunt
We're going to go on a fun scavenger hunt! If you want to scatter the clues around and hide a small snack with each one, kids might really appreciate the extra fun it will bring! You can work through this on your own or with a friend. Have fun!
Math Review: Evaluating Expressions
Let's work on a set of task cards that will help us review everything so far. Each card has its own math problem to solve. In each case, we're going to practice our integer operations by substituting in values for the letters.
Math Activity: Algebra Packet #1 (Part 1)
If the workbook above Operations on Integers was too easy for you (HINT: there's a test at the back that you can use to figure this out quickly), then use this packet below to work through a deeper dive into the content. This packet has several sections that covers the important concepts we'll be using throughout this course and into Algebra 1.
Math Challenge
Each session, I have a special Math Challenge for you to work on after you work through some of the content in this area of math. The goal for these special math challenges is for you to be able to communicate your great ideas with your family and friends, without them being in a math class or having any knowledge of a specific area of math. You should be able to convey your great ideas to most people that are interested in hearing what you have to share. Many families find this part of the math program exciting for them to participate in with their student!

Solution to Math Riddle #1
A clock. When it is 9 a.m., adding 5 hours would make it 2 p.m.
