Percent Unit Review
We've covered a lot in this unit! We discovered how to use proportional relationships to solve multistep ratio and percent problems, like simple and compound interest calculations, tax, tip, markups and markdowns, gratuities and commissions, fees, percent change (both increase and decrease), and percent error.
This session, you'll find a complete study packet that includes a unit review, study guide and a test. Work your way through each one, and when completed, you can select the bonus percent session you'd like to do: one of the two Mini Escape Rooms or a Mini-Mystery (or all three!)
Percent Workbook #3: Part 3
I've put together a set of videos that will walk you through this workbook, so grab yours and let's work together. There are several videos that cover Workbook #3, and you'll find the first set of videos in the previous sessions. Plan to complete 3-4 pages per day. After you complete the pages, you may check the answer key.
Download your Percent #3 Workbook
To help you with your daily practice, I've put together a set of workbooks. You can use these or your own workbooks as long as it covers percent. Plan to complete 3-4 pages per day. After you complete the pages, you may check the answer key.
Percent Review: Escape Room - Percent Pirates!
To help you with your review of everything we've covered in this unit, I've put together a fun escape room activity to use as a review. Watch the video first before you get started!
Math Activity: Percent Packet #7
This week, the Percent Packet has three different sections: a Study Guide, a Review, and a Test. We'll go over and review everything from this unit in the study guide and review, and then go ahead and take the test, and then watch the instructional video that goes over the test in detail so you can correct any mistakes. Let's first start with the Percent Study Guide!
Math Activity: Percent Packet #7 - REVIEW
This week, the Percent Packet has three different sections: a Study Guide, a Review, and a Test. Work through the Study Guide first before working on the Review below.
Math Activity: Percent Packet #7 - TEST
This week, the Percent Packet has three different sections: a Study Guide, a Review, and a Test. We'll go over the test in detail so you can correct any mistakes. Take the test FIRST, then watch the walk-through videos below.
Percent Escape Room
We're going to go into a digital escape room and practice calculating tax, tip, markups, discounts, and more while unlocking five different locks! Watch the short video first, and then let's get started!
Advanced Level Math Class
Advanced students will start with a practical lab problem about meteorites (yes, it's a real meteorite I am holding, and these are real numbers from the original it was sliced from). Let's take a look at how to figure out how much of the meteorite is olivine (the gemstone) and how much is the matrix (of iron and nickel).
Math Concepts: Running a Profitable Business
This week we're going to finish our talk about the most important aspects of running a small business, learning how to make good financial decisions that will be good for the business and encourage it to grow.
Math Lab: Running your First Business
You're going to start a small business! Let's walk through this one step at a time, making sure you understand not only the big picture of what it takes to set up and run a business but also see how the math works in this process. This is a great lab to do with your parents together. Use the packet outlined in class for the four videos below.
Starting a Food Truck Business
We’re going to start our own FOOD TRUCK business! Let’s learn the business side of things to be sure we make good financial decisions before selling our first taco. We'll discover how to do the math calculations for our loan payment, how much we'll earn per hour, and make our way through lots of important decisions like location, loan selection, and what to sell in our truck.
Simple & Compound Interest Review: Mini Mystery!
You were in a little bit of a hurry this morning. You hit the snooze one too many times, then rolled out of bed to find that your dog had an accident on the floor in the middle of the night. After cleaning up his mess, you decide to skip the shower and just spray on a little more smell-good stuff than usual.
Then you slip on your shoes, pour a large cup of coffee and head in to work.
When you get to work, the receptionist, Nancy, greets you at the door. “There you are!”, she says. “Everyone’s waiting in the conference room for you. If I were you, I’d hurry in.”
"Conference room?”, you mutter to yourself. “I wonder what that’s about.”
When you walk in, you see everyone there – everyone on your team, your boss, the intern who gets everyone’s coffee in the morning, and the CEO of the accounting firm you work for, PanCorp.
“Come in, and have a seat.” The CEO, Dan, says.
So you quickly sit down, hoping no one notices that you spilled coffee all down the front of your shirt.
“We have a bit of a situation on our hands,” Dan says. “It seems someone on our team has been falsifying our financial statements and stealing some money from us. Whoever it is, they seem to think it’s some kind of a game. Not only have they stolen money, but they faxed us a series of puzzles to see if we can figure out who it is.”
Dan reaches into his brief case and pulls out a piece of paper titled “Clue Sheet.”
Someone in this room left us clues about who they are, and no one is leaving until we figure out who it is.
"I made copies of the clue sheet for everyone. And no one leaves until we know who the thief is.” Dan says.
Use your knowledge of simple and compound interest to answer the questions below and figure out which person in this room is the thief!
Math Challenge
Each session, I have a special Math Challenge for you to work on after you work through some of the content in this area of math. The goal for these special math challenges is for you to be able to communicate your great ideas with your family and friends, without them being in a math class or having any knowledge of a specific area of math. You should be able to convey your great ideas to most people that are interested in hearing what you have to share. Many families find this part of the math program exciting for them to participate in with their student!

Solution to Percent Week #6 Math Challenge
Each cube must have a 0, 1, and 2. This leaves only six faces for the remaining 7 digits.
Fortunately, with the right font, a 6 and a 9 can share the same cube by just turning the cube upside down to the desired number.
This picture shows 3, 4, 5 on the right cube, so the hidden numbers must be 0, 1, 2.
Left cube shows 1, 2 so the hidden numbers must be 0, 6 (or 9), 7, and 8.
