Volume
What is volume and how do we use it? Volume is how much 3D space a shape takes up. We first calculate the area of one of the sides, and then extend this calculation to include the length of the object through multiplication. Volume is absolutely everywhere - every time you fill a bowl, save leftovers from dinner into containers, put toys in a box or drink a glass of water, volume is involved! Let's get really good at calculating volume together.
Math Class Session
These math class lessons will start you out on the right path into our geometry adventure. After watching the math lesson video, continue to practice the concepts using the Geometry Packet, activities, games, projects, word problems... and have fun learning!
Geometry Packet: Section 5
This session uses a packet of lessons that we will be working through in place of a regular workbook. We'll be working on different sections of the packet during each session. In addition to the content in the packet, you'll find homework, activities, quizzes, a study guide and a test to complete at the end when you've finished all the content in the entire packet.
Geometry Activity: 28 Task Cards
Let's review everything we've covered so far using these fun task cards. I'll demonstrate how to solve the first one in each set, so you can pause the video to finish up the rest of each set. There are seven sets total. Ready?
Geometry Activity: Scavenger Hunt (Review)
After cutting out the pieces, lay them all out so you can see them easily, then solve the puzzles and line up the pieces on the grid. It's a great way to refresh and review everything we've covered so far!
Geometry Game: Teeko
This is a fun strategy game invented by John Scarne that is simple and classic. (he later named his son Teeko as well!) All you need is a simple 5x5 grid drawn on a sheet of paper and you're all set!
Geometry Puzzle
Don't peek at the solution (at the bottom of this page) until you've had time to ponder this one out!
Geometry Study Guide Review Session
You did it! You made it through the geometry course, and now it's time to do a quick in-depth review of volume, area, shapes and figures! Let's go over each part step by step, and then when you are ready, take the test (in the next section) first before watching the video!
Geometry Unit Test
Woohoo! You did it! You made it through the geometry course, and now it's time to show off how much you've learned! Be sure to take the test first BEFORE watching the video that goes over the answers!
Geometry Challenge: Packing Cubes Problem
We have a box that holds 27 unit cubes. Into each box must go six 2x2 and three single unit cubes. Is there a way to make them all fit? Yes or no? Can you prove it either way? (The solution to this problem is posted in Pre-Algebra Session #1, the next course to be completed after this one.)
