Multiplying Decimals
This session, we'll dive deeper in decimal multiplication and learn how to ballpark our answers so we really understand how large (or small) our final answer should be. Let's learn how to take over a family business and make sure we're turning a profit, get lost in a math maze, and build a decimal dodecahedron! We'll focus on money and accounting calculations and continue to explore the Metric System.
Download your Decimals #2 & #3 Workbook
To help you with your daily practice, I've put together a set of workbooks. You can use these or your own workbooks as long as it covers decimals. Plan to complete 4-5 pages per day. After you complete the pages, you may check the answer key.
Decimals Workbook Videos
I've put together a set of videos that will walk you through these workbooks, so grab yours and let's work together. Plan to complete 3-4 pages per day. After you complete the pages, you may check the answer key.
Multiplication with M&Ms
This is a fun way to represent numbers, using different markers for numbers! You can use skittles, M&Ms, beads, or colored bits of paper.
Math Maze: Addition & Subtraction Practice
Let's get lost in a maze while practicing both addition and subtraction!
Run a Donut Shop
You are taking over the family business: a Donut Shop! Learn how to make business decisions using graphs and charts to represent decimal numbers for inventory and sales, discover how to effectively plan for different areas of your business, and understand what kind of real-world information is stored in that decimal number.
Decimals: Math Squares
This is a fun way to practice your adding skills. Although this is a simple activity, think about how you could use this in an escape room or treasure hunt to give you an "unlock" code near the end. What kind of numbers would you put in yours if you designed your own math square? Think about the tenths, hundredths, and thousandths place.
Decimals Dodecahedron Creative Art Project
As we explore operations with decimals, it might get confusing, so you can make this fun, colorful 3D dodecahedron (a 12-sided object made of pentagons) to help you keep things straight as you go along! This is a 3D version with sample problems that you solved puzzle-pieced together into something you can keep on your desk or hang from your ceiling!
Math Maze: Decimal Multiplication
Let's get lost in a maze and have fun getting out using multiplication! You can use a separate piece of paper if you need extra space to work out each problem. Have fun!
Advanced Level Math Class
Advanced students will focus on doing calculations as well as working on practical application of decimals. You'll need to have a firm grasp of decimals (operations like adding, subtracting, multiplying dividing) as well as converting between fractions and decimals in order to go through the content covered in the Advanced level.
Math Lab: Weather Lab
The kind of weather you experience depends on where you live on the planet. We're going to learn how to read a rain gauge in both millimeters (mm) and milliliters (ml) and also compare the wettest and driest locations on the planet. You'll also get to do a science experiment by making it rain indoors and practice taking data as you run your experiment!
Astronomy Labs
Math Challenge
Each session, I have a special Math Challenge for you to work on after you work through some of the content in this area of math. The goal for these special math challenges is for you to be able to communicate your great ideas with your family and friends, without them being in a math class or having any knowledge of a specific area of math. You should be able to convey your great ideas to most people that are interested in hearing what you have to share. Many families find this part of the math program exciting for them to participate in with their student!
